Where was the injury? Could he be having trouble getting into and out of the litterpan? If so, is there something with a lower lip that he could use for a little while? (Yes, you'll probably want to throw it out afterwards, and you'll need to do a lot of sweeping the litter he scatters.) And a 'cat attract' product may help him understand that this is where he's supposed to go.
