3. It is Dogwood winter

They are in full bloom here now and it is to be 25 tonight, 33 tomorrow night. My tomatoes are spending the night inside. Buckets will go over the lettuce providing the rather fierce wind doesn't blow them into the next county over. Wind is to die down in the early morning hours which means a probable frost on my blooming apple tree....grrr. Can't cover it. By local tradition, we will have one more cold spell when the blackberries bloom, but it shouldn't frost for that one. I have never known these 'winters' to not happen. Another local tradition is to plant beans on Good Friday. That should be about right as the soil will be warming up now. The UGa extension service published an article several years ago about planting according to Mother Nature. The article said to sow seeds when the dogwoods bloom.
