1. Are they in full sun?

Irises need full sun for at least 6-8 hours a day to bloom well.

Are they planted too deep? The top of the rhizome should sit about the soil line.

When you thinned them out, did you break up the rhizomes, or just move some plants out of the way. They should be split every 3-4 years at best.

Is the soil well-drained? They do best in that condition.

Those are my suggestions.
