7. I haven't tried it, but I heard about it being benefitial for root rot

Some that are doing hydroponics use it, but I don't think it's in widespread use for the purpose. It's best to not get root rot in the first place and if you get it there's often nothing that you can do if you don't catch it quickly enough.
