To start, potato pancakes served with sour cream and apple sauce on the side. I'm going to grill a knackwurst and a weisswurst; they're huge! They'll be served with coarse ground mustard. The sides'll be sauerkraut and steamed spinach. too much food but the leftovers will make a nice lunch tomorrow.

Last night, we joined some friends at a seafood restaurant on NYC's Upper West Side. We had a table outside in a sidewalk shed so we could enjoy the sunset and the people-watching. For starters, we had raw Blue Point oysters with a vinegar & minced onion mix, spicy cocktail sauce and lemon slices. Scrumptious.

For the entrees, my wife and my friend's husband both had clams with spicy linguini. My friend had a seafood stew that she loved; it had lobster, shrimp, clams and mussels in a light tomato broth. I had a blackened swordfish steak served with a black bean and onion combo. We shared a bottle of Pinot Grigio.

Then we saw an off-Broadway revue called Broadway Confidential. It was thoroughly entertaining with a great cast, terrific pianist and lots of humor. Highly recommended.

It was a wonderful New York evening.
