13. I liked the Deep South

The people were generally pretty nice. I have never had a problem with the subset of Maga voters I have met superficially.

I have met similar people here in India. In a way Maga are closer to a lot of people the world over re saying not pc things and so on. But sometimes it is not ill intentioned. I have never been uptight that way where no offense is intended.

But, if I have never viewed it condescendingly, I view it the same way I view specialized instrumentation. You need to be trained on it and the people Maga vote for are vile and would have no issue manipulating and using Maga the way I see the Darwin Awards candidates on my own street manipulated into idiotically flooding a street they should avoid. They have damaged my ear drums too often for me to now have any compunction left for them.

Conservatives have too much in group cohesion and they move en masse whereas with lefties it is like herding cats.

It can be more complicated than race, gender and class. Otoh it can be all about that. Figuring out which parts of this complicated hairball that is society are working ways most alarming overall and how to communicate that in a time sensitive way but while reaching the most people is the bind.

I think most people are okay with the stragglers in the group when they are far away. I am sick of the idiots on my street here in India. Maga are over there and making life hell for among other people a small subset of dem voters I tend to dislike and so I don’t care ( in those few instances - anyone who attacks Paul Ehrlich can suck up Maga imo ). The anti-Green left of centre Cato-Romney types who made life so hellish for me I had to uproot overnight and leave. They don’t really like environmentalists and will use any excuse to harass and smear us imo.
It was the right call and I am much happier today than had I somehow stuck around throwing my pride to the winds. I couldn’t have anyway. Work or social- an impossible task for a loner.

Maga never ideologically forced me out of spaces I would at least have liked a decent notice to vacate. That was all democrats of the type I avoid - technocratic bullies. Unpleasant people - they behave irl the way is common only online. But I don’t want to go and tell some sort of Maga sleuth . Lame.

I didn’t take it personally as these cliques and gossip types are cracked. They are closer to Maga in their herd like behaviors.

So I am more tolerant for Maga than of those idiots. Otoh my few friends and colleagues are also there and if Maga were harassing them that would be vile.

Life is complicated. My sense of identity is mostly based in environmental issues and the right has outright not given a shit forever and the left has a lot of that too and I was used to pretending to take it as casually as one should at normal levels. It was different to now deeply reinvent oneself as this insipid douchebag who thinks all of earth should be a giant theme park/toilet/garbage bin/parking lot to fit in ..heh. A type of camouflage that gets so ingrained it feels like a shock if people actually genuinely give a shit about earth.
