they were too close to existing names used to target other conditions or are of different strengths. There is an Institute for Safe Medication Practices that in part looks for Look-Alike, Sound-Alike (LASA) medications. A few examples:
Klonopin vs Clonidine
Prednisone vs Prednisolone
Celebrex vs Celexa

That's a difficult name to pronounce, though, sometimes even the brand names.
