Some people think the shot gives them the flu because of the day or two of body aches and low fever they get afterward, which i suppose they don't realize is proof that the shot is waking up their immune system and getting it ready to defend against the real thing.

Others might catch a completely different strain of the flu, either because science guessed incorrectly about the dominant strain that year or they just had the plain bad luck of being in a region where an old strain they weren't protected against was out there. Flu shots give partial protection against any related strain, a shot that protects against, say, H3N2 will partially protect against H3N3, and so forth.

Tell those couple of people to bite the bullet and get the shot this year. This year's flu is horrible.
