6. The WHO compliant masks are actually very good

at stopping all but the finest aerosols. What they do for an uninfected person is buy a little time to get away from a maskhole. What they do for an asymptomatic infected person is filter out all but the finest droplets, greatly reducing the viral load in the area. In many viral illnesses, a low viral load means a milder illness, since it gives the immune system time to react before the illness overwhelms the body.

Surgical masks are just a little better, 3 layers of material, also.

People on FB and Etsy are coming up with masks that people will actually want to wear as fashion statements. They're far from cheap (my surgical masks are under a buck apiece) but some of them are hilarious.
