Public Transportation and Smart Growth

The Tea-Publicans' antics concerning mass transit and other forms of transportation is one of the major reasons why I've lost any faith in those people's ability to govern competently. Mass transit systems are difficult and expensive to build and take years to construct and operate. If the wing-nuts get their way and shut down Amtrak and any rail-based transist systems they can get their hands on, it would take hundreds of billions of dollars to replace what was lost because of those people's ideology-driven folly.
