Worse of all, the the DC chemicals that were supposed to clean up the oil sank carto the bottom of the Gulf, the shellfish were wiped out, but the fishing companies were happy to have the Govt claim everything was fine to eat. Ala.was happy to spend the disaster funds on tourist advertising. The tourist industry invested in stand alone, water faucets at the beaches so you could rinse the oil covered sand of your body from swimming and wading at the beaches.
Boats dragged oil catching booms alone the water before dawn and trucks ran sweepers to pick up sand congealed tar balls along the beaches before the tourists were up for the day.
Straight out of "Jaws" movie.
Same Government thinking here kept beaches open during Covid so there would be no loss of tourist money.
