11. THANKS SO MUCH for this item! Just when I was wondering what to do for our "third ask"!

PERFECT timing! Nothing like an ask that's geographically-relevant! Our Indivisible Clackamas weekly newsletter features three "asks" for our members and readers to make use of, if they want to call their Reps about the issues, or motivate their friends to do so. It's a go for this coming Thursday:

Nothing fishy about this one: It’s a WIN for our Oregon ecosystem!
An Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife expert has confirmed that “salmon were in the tributary”! Mark Hereford, who heads the Klamath Fisheries Reintroduction Project, says a fall-run Chinook salmon was sighted in the Klamath Basin last week. It’s the first salmon seen returning to Spencer Creek in the Klamath Basin since 1912!
The breakthrough happened only a few weeks after four PacifiCorp Klamath River hydroelectric dams were removed to allow fish passage from California to Oregon. Researchers say there are now at least four adult salmon and a nest in that area - over 260 miles from the ocean, at an altitude of over 4,000 feet, and only 10 miles from Klamath Falls. The migration involved many class-4 and -5 rapids above the dam sites, AND a waterfall in the Klamath River that the fish had to muscle their way UP. The dams had blocked migration to historic habitat, and their removal couldn’t have happened without protests, rallies, and activism by local tribes, environmentalists and fishermen over the past 20 years. Experts are now hoping we’ll see the return of coho salmon and steelhead to the upper watershed soon.

I’m encouraged to hear that salmon are starting to re-establish in the Klamath River Basin! It’s the first sighting since 1912!
Salmon are a precious resource here in the Pacific Northwest, and we must never be reckless or irresponsible about their survival.
I hope you’ll be a strong supporter of our natural resources, and a leader in protecting them. Please don’t slack off on that. It’s our heritage, and it can so easily be squandered!
We are caretakers of the rivers, forests, mountains, coastline, and all the wildlife in them. Let’s never forget that! It’s a responsibility that ALL of us must always take seriously.
