4. Corn mostly needs nitrogen

Unlike phosphorous (P) and potassium (K), nitrogen has a short shelf life. Soy bean plants can gather and leave nitrogen in the soil so they make a good rotation with corn which is nitrogen-hungry.

Going to guess that most US farmers and their suppliers have already stocked or shipped fertilizer for this season. More likely that Australia and next year's US seasons are impacted.

Even if no issues with fertilizer, the price of diesel will push food prices up significantly.
