For that matter, who's going to maintain and repair the data centers and computers and communication systems upon which AI depends? Who's going to maintain the roads and utility lines serving these data centers? Who is going to run and maintain the power plants that support the energy demands of AI?

Kurt Vonnegut in 1952 wrote a remarkably prescient novel about a society in which a handful of individuals with multiple PhDs control the operations of society, while nearly all the rest of the population is unemployed or works at menial jobs like sweeping streets and picking up trash. It's called Player Piano, and is well worth reading.
