Since it would hook into the system so deeply.

Here: this is a guide to removing it and making sure the leftovers are all taken care of. Some third party tools may handle this, but they can also be a risk for ‘bundleware’ and potentially unwanted stuff. So if you use one, make sure it’s well reviewed, there are a few listed as options if you don’t want to clean up manually.
