9. There is no HotMail app.

Since Microsoft owns both HotMail.com and Outlook.com, Hotmail is now hosted on the Outlook servers.

Any email client (app) can be used to access any standard email service, not always for free.

If the confirmation email is not being seen, then the most likely reason is that the email message is getting caught on the spam filters of either Outlook.com or your email client. Try the web browser interface to Outlook.com to see if you can find the message.

There is the remote possibility that the confirmation email is not actually getting sent due to problems on that server.
