A new core i7 512-gb Surface laptop runs about $2,500 retail, roughly twice what a Dell Optiplex desktop with similar specs would cost:

Anyway if your current laptop is otherwise in good shape you can get two devices -- a new desktop and an upgraded lappie -- for about half the price of a new laptop. Just a thought!
