Governor Newsom' s decision was based on multiple factors. Barbara Lee's age, unfortunately, may have been a consideration as well as the multiple leadership roles she has as a Representative. Alex Padilla's age and his presidency of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, which has a membership of more than 6,000 may have contributed.
