Living on the edge, that Starmer ...

His deeply stupid remarks about his warped view of UK constitutional politics haven't won him any new friends in Scotland (or Wales, I'm sure). After equating the Tories and SNP (neatly ignoring the fact that Labour and the Tories have been in an unholy anti-SNP coalition in Aberdeen City Council for the last few years - actually, maybe he didn't ignore it, perhaps he just hasn't a shadow of a clue), he came out with this:

Marcus Carslaw

The labour argument for the union.

"Gordon Brown said recently, 'When a Welsh or Scottish woman gives blood, she doesn't demand an assurance that it must not go to an English patient.'"

Well no, I'd imagine she doesn't, because that would be fucking deranged.

Such a humdinger of a zinger was this that Labour apparatchiks have done their best to expunge it from the record of his conference speech.

It's unbelievable that Starmer is relying on hoary old fossil Gordon Brown to lead a commission into how to "settle" the devolution question. Brown will never live down the "Vow" promises of radical, world-beating devolution for Scotland during and after the independence referendum, none of which ever materialized because he held, and still holds, no power to bring them about even if he was serious about it.
