Marla is a lot of things, but stupid is not one of them. I think she protected her daughter on many levels, including one that will go unmentioned specifically, but I have always thought that the father reminds me of the Noah Cross character in the film Chinatown. Of course, John Huston was a whole different kettle of fish But there is no question in my mind that the father is a dangerous person in many respects and Marla knew enough about what went on with Ivanka to shield Tiffany best she could.
