As someone who grew up in the Dairy Business during the 50's and early 60's in Wisconsin. We had a check off program per every Hundred Weight of milk we produced. Those funds were used to supply Milk,Cheese,Butter as well as Eggs to Struggling Families in need. As well as to the School Hot lunch Programs around the State.

Do recall years later, the Wholesale Grocery Companies as well as in cooperation with a couple private Dairy Companies, lobbied the State Legislature to have the Check off program killed because it was cutting into the Private Corporations bottom line.

Irony, when the check off program was in place,Milk Prices were stable and Surplus's were pretty much kept in check. Soon as the Check off was canceled, you guessed it,surplus product inventories mushroomed.

In Wisconsin what is really needed is a program to eliminate several thousand Dairy Animals via a buy out using those purchase Animals for Ground Beef given to the Food Shelves as well as the School Hot lunch programs.
