Shelby County tops 600k registered voters ahead of election [View all]

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — If you were hoping to register to vote in Shelby County in the upcoming election, you missed the deadline. But for those who did make it, they’ll join a record number of voters in the county.

As the clock ticked down Monday to the deadline to register to vote in Shelby County, first-time voters such as 22-year-old college student Antonio Henderson were at the election commission making sure they would be able to cast their ballot.

“You should vote because our ancestors worked really hard for us to vote,” Henderson said. “They put in the work, the heart, the dedication and everything. I feel like it’s very important to vote.”

Linda Phillips is the Shelby County Election Administrator.
