Glad he's made it to age 8.
We had a cat who'd had surgery for bladder stones and had to be on a special diet. The prescription food must have been delicious as Jake weighed 21 lb and our other cat got "portly" also. Sadly at age 5 Jake died with no warning at all, DH found him in his usual napping place.
