What's the Missouri legislature doing about REAL ID? [View all]

JEFFERSON CITY — As some Missourians worry about whether their driver's licenses will allow them to set foot on a domestic airline or a U.S. military base, debate about whether to bring Missouri into compliance with the REAL ID Act hit the House floor Tuesday, with a Senate discussion close behind.

The competing positions on REAL ID — a 2005 Act of Congress which sets standards for how states should issue drivers' licenses — was summed up in a Sunday exchange on Twitter:

"I will be debating #REALID on the Senate floor this week," wrote Sen. Will Kraus, R-Lee's Summit. "I'm standing on the side of privacy and pushing back on Federal Govt. overreach."

Soon after, Kraus was countered by Sen. Ryan Silvey, R-Kansas City.
