Fischbach resigns from state Senate, is sworn in as lieutenant governor [View all]

Why? The session is done for this year. Had she resigned before the Senate would have been evenly divided but I doubt it would have made a difference.

And she will be Lt. Gov only until Jan 1 (or whenever the new gov will take office). Unless she will be a running mate to the Republican candidate.

What am I missing?
