Gov. John Hickenlooper on Hillary Clinton and the 2016 ballot in Colorado [View all]

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper is defending Democrat Hillary Clinton against questions of trust as the campaign looks to convince undecided voters and his name once again surfaces for an administration post.

The Democrat sat down for an interview with The Denver Post to talk about the 2016 election, his appearance in the audience at a WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) event in Denver and his upcoming budget proposal. (Watch the first half of the interview on Facebook Live here.)

Hickenlooper — a top campaign surrogate in Colorado — said he trusts Clinton and her issue stems from her distrust of the media after a lifetime in the spotlight. “I think she has to cross over the threshold somewhere where she trust the media, she trusts the camera and she trusts the world out there,” he said. “If you don’t trust the media, they are not going trust you, and if they don’t trust you, it’s hard for the public to trust you.”

The governor sidestepped a question of whether he shares Clinton’s dream of “open trade and open borders.” But he acknowledged the “bitterness” among the working class. “We did not do a good enough job of taking care of the people who were losing their careers and retraining them into the new economy,” he said, adding: “I’d be bitter, too.”
