CA-GOV: 6 candidates confirmed for next week's Inside California Politics California governor's debate [View all]

(KRON/NEXSTAR) — The six candidates who have qualified for the Inside California Politics California gubernatorial debate on KRON4 next week have been confirmed. Following the collapse of former Bay Area Congressman Eric Swalwell’s campaign, KRON4’s parent company Nexstar Media Group took the unprecedented step of conducting a fresh poll in collaboration with Emerson College Polling.

With the re-polling, two Republicans and four Democrats qualified for the debate based on Nexstar’s standardized qualifying criteria used for debates across the country.

On the Republican side, former Fox News commentator Steve Hilton qualified with 17%, along with Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco at 14%. Both have accepted our invitation to take part in the debate.

On the Democratic side, billionaire activist Tom Steyer qualified with 14%, followed by former U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra and former Rep. Katie Porter, who are tied at 10%. San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan also made the cut with 5%.
