Hi, DU.

My twin sister was admitted into a hospice in La Mesa yesterday. She is dying of bone cancer and she doesn't have much time left. I am going to try to get to CA next week but about passed out when I saw hotel prices for places around there. Over $200/night for a Motel 6??? Jeeze. Am wondering if anyone has any ideas for alternate housing? I will probably try to see if an Air B&B is any cheaper so suggestions for those would also be welcome.

I guess while I'm at it, we also need to rent a car. Any suggestions on what might be cheaper options besides the usual suspects?

I knew Cali was expensive, but every time I've been in the past decade it's been to visit with her in/on the Baja. I most definitely am suffering from sticker shock!

Thanks for any ideas!

UPDATE: I cannot believe I'm typing this, but my sister just died. Thank you all for caring.
