and assorted other well off Californians actually living in beach houses literally on the beach. They weren't small beach shacks but huge houses surrounded by sand with the road behind them up on the hill. Our coast has changed A LOT!

Right now I noticed the house on the beach in Mildred Pierce. Roddy McDowall, Cary Grant, etc had homes on the beach.
