1. I had much the same reaction.

I only watched the first episode. I found most of the characters grating, especially Laurie's.
I really like Daniel Levy, but had a hard time with the sloppy writing.

SPOILER ALERT:
Anyone who has dealt with a funeral home, let alone someone in the clergy, would know that the family is ALWAYS asked if they want the jewelry removed from the deceased before burial, so a major plot device is blown from the get-go.

Maybe I'm just too picky. It is, after all, a comedy. But as a writer, I have a particular dislike of plot holes, especially in the first episode.
