The Snow Peak lookout, which is even closer, is scheduled to go on the rental program as soon as some repairs are made. Arid and Snow Peak are hike-in lookouts, while Surveyors can be reached in a high-clearance vehicle.

This is me at Surveyors fire lookout in mid-July 2025. It took me 3.5 hours to drive the 20 miles from my lookout location.
