4. it all comes down to geometry

the farther away from the subject, the shallower the angle of view. In this case, distance of 3 miles at 2000 ft, about 7 degrees.

Geeking out, in this photo, 1/2 mile at 2000 ft, about 42 degrees, almost a belly shot.


But wait! There is a trick I like to use as in this photo. Be in a spot where the plane is banking, dipping the wing in my direction, and....boom, I'm level or above the plane of the plane. Photographic magic. You can see a bunch of those here:
