….although Dunn was a member of the MG’s, I don’t think he was on the original recording.
A point about the “power” of the tune: it takes a whole band to create a groove like Green Onions. Mrs. Returnee, who is a drummer, and a big fan of Al Jackson, Jr., said this morning that Jackson, Jr’s work on that tune is a master class on exactly what needs to be played, nothing more and nothing less, to create the groove. It is apparently exceedingly difficult to do so exceedingly well. The entire tune may be a master class for the other musicians as well, and for the band working together as a whole inseparable unit.
