I think I will get her something small but unique that I pick out.... I have seen some very pretty hand made hooks, for example, and send it with a gift card for her to pick out what she wants. That way she will know I put thought into picking something for her, but as you have all expressed, she'll be able to pick her color of yarn or whatever she needs.
