And yes, use a one-sided layout so no pieces show the 'wrong' side.

Depending on the design, you could lap the seams so they show coordinated contrasting, but finished, lines. Seam-bind the edges. This works best with a pattern without too many extreme curves. Then you have a reversible piece.
