There was also a time when one could spend their 'golden years' without being hounded for money every five seconds as well, but we live in a society that operates by draining every cent from those who don't have any, and giving it to those who have too much of it. That time I mention saw our elders being treated with respect, which included the belief that they should be helped by the community at large whenever and wherever it could do so. That 'community' does not exist anymore, except in an abstract way via social media, and that is not 'community' either, but it is as close as some of the younger crowd has ever experienced.

Instead of being 'on our own' applying to financial and career situations, it now applies to every single person throughout their entire lives, from being a baby until one is all but a dried out husk. We are expected to 'play the game', even when the game has long give up on us. What is particularly upsetting is that, generally, we seem okay with this loss. With the exception of sales, the very abstract concept of 'community' seems little more than a distant fairytale. The concept of people actually being sociable with each other without specific reasons has left us. Hell, these days, it is considered a very bad thing to just say 'hello' to your neighbor, as if your only intention was to mooch from, or degrade them. It will certainly be their first thought if you try it.

So much has been lost in our society and it didn't have to be lost. However, the 'powers that be' found more profit in letting it die. SO, they convinced us that it was a good idea. And, as usual...

Thank you for the kind words. I hope everyone survives the current situation. I doubt I will, but I hope everyone else does.
