There is no grief as PURE as the one we feel when a beloved pet dies. Raw. Unfettered by social norms or customs, it's a PRIMAL thing. Unstoppable as an avalanche.

My husband and I went through this after the death of our cat. It's been 22 months now. Her ashes sit on s bookshelf inside a carved box. There's A blue plastic ring from a gallon milk jug that sits on top of it.

Zee used to shoot these by holding one end in her teeth and shooting them off her paw.

Those rings were EVERYWHERE in the house, behind curtains......on nearly every step of the staircase.

We moved recently and a box with her ashes, her name and her date of death engraved on the lid, has one blue ring sitting right on top of it.

Our pets' names are tattooed on our hearts always, and I do understand that grief.
