(130,913 posts)If you have a landline phone nearby you probably don't need your cellphone, but if you don't have a landline any more (I ditched it some years ago when I realized that it had become just a conduit for telemarketers), the cellphone is the only way you can get help if you need it, especially if you live alone. Fire? Burglar breaking in? Sudden illness? How are you going to get to the cellphone you left downstairs in the living room to call the fire department if your house is on fire and your room is full of smoke? Or, are you going to ask the burglar in your living room to hold off for a minute while you get the cellphone off the coffee table and call the police? Having a heart attack and can't even breathe let alone get out of bed, walk down the steps in the dark, find the phone and call an ambulance? Seems kind of insane to me not to keep the phone in the bedroom if it's the only one you have.
