Mayonnaise is now considered a musical instrument 🎶 [View all]

YES, PATRICK—MAYONNAISE IS AN INSTRUMENT AS HELLMAN'S STUDY ANSWERS SPONGEBOB QUESTION

Twenty-five years ago, SpongeBob SquarePants' Patrick Star (Bill Fagerbakke) raised an important question that is hotly debated to this very day: “Is mayonnaise an instrument?"

"What actually matters when determining whether something is a musical instrument," according to the study, "is whether than object can produce or modify sound in a controlled and intentional way."

“It’s a question that’s been around for years, but no one’s really tried to answer it properly," added Smith. "Seeing people actually make music with mayonnaise and turning it into a real track has been wild. It shouldn’t work, but somehow it does. We’re bringing a new texture to music!"
