... loose lips sink ships and all that. I think he considered it a dirty job that needed doing, especially during World War II.

He'd happily talk about his post war work on civilian aircraft and later the space program.

I have some of his Apollo memorabilia including his Apollo 8 "flown metal" medallion, a few mechanical drawings, and photographs.

Growing up I felt a lot of pressure to be an engineer but about two years into college I changed my major to Biology and was much happier studying that. I did a lot of things in college that wouldn't have pleased my family.
