Happy Friday the 13th! Do you have a good story? [View all]

This isn't a scary story, but it's memorable for me. Friday March 13, 1993 was the day we got a terrible, huge ugly blizzard of a snowstorm in Pittsburgh. It was so horrible that authorities told everyone to stay off the roads, don't try to drive in it. I'm not sure but I think it was something like 22 inches of snow. Something like that.
It just so happened that the next day (March 14th) was my birthday, and I spent probably 8 hours shoveling snow off my parents' driveway. Yuck! However once I got my car shoveled out, I was able to go out on the roadways that had been plowed the night before. Very few drivers were out on the roads that day, so it was actually quite enjoyable to be out there!
My youngest sister was 16 at the time and practicing to get her drivers' license. The drivers' training classes never take their students out in ice and snow, which I always thought was stupid. I took my sister out on the snowy roads and let her drive my car, so she could get the experience of driving in adverse (but not too dangerous) conditions. I taught her techniques that she still uses to this day, and now she's living in Denver. She sees a lot more snow than I do in Pittsburgh!
