transmission that's been replaced isn't guaranteed?

The shop and mechanic should honor some sort of warranty/guarantee.

A good mechanic would never recharge for a faulty repair.

You need to take it back to the mechanic and politely but firmly insist to get it repaired free of charge.

The transmission repair should have lasted much longer than 8 months.
