‘In July 1792, George Washington and three commissioners reviewed the entries and selected Hoban’s design for the executive mansion’

The North portico was extended in 1829 its columns aligns with the rear after the British burned it. Its served as the formal entry. The columns are alike in style by design, the WH is a house not some grand mansion of the rich.

James Hoban lead the reconstruction after the fire, the rear portico was request by Pres. Monroe in the rebuild.
