Abortion is just a right wing dog whistle for controlling women and people of color.

They won't abandon him because they have what they want - Roe reversed and laws that oppress women. They know that, under trump, they can continue to push their American Taliban agenda. They know that now that America has woken up to their threat anything BUT Trump will be defeat for their long term agenda.

It's not about babies, it's not about christianity. It's about white supremacist patriarchy which they are willing to die to preserve.
