Because, when they are all hauled up on charges, they will be saying the reverse. (That somewhat famous bit from the beginningnof 'Robocop' comes to mind: "It's not like he killed someone!" referring to his client being charged with attempted murder.)

We need to remind Mr. Rosen and the rest of this very important statement over and over as they whine for 'leniency'.
