Because the current 'legal' system allows it to happen.

And, we love the current 'legal' system, don't we?

Based on what I see every day, we certainly do! (Well, some of us do... the same people who have power because of said broken system, but hey... they love it.)

And, the inequities it allows and protects? Well, that is just how it goes, isn't it? Because we will not even consider thinking about correcting or changing it.
