Democrat Johnny Garcia is projected to win his House primary runoff in Texas, defeating a candidate that came under fire for remarks seen as antisemitic, according to Decision Desk HQ.
Garcia, a public information officer for the Bexar County Sheriffs Office, cemented his status as the preferred candidate of national Democrats after rival Maureen Galindo, a sex therapist and housing activist, was criticized for incendiary remarks.
In one Instagram post, Galindo had stated plans to, if elected, turn an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) processing center in Karnes County into a prison for American Zionists and former ICE officers for human trafficking.
Galindo, who placed first in the states initial March primary, told The New York Times that everything is based off a local journalist twisting words and said shes always called for all detention centers to be closed.
