What goes up must come down and if a bullet is fired and doesn't hit anything along it's trajectory, then it keeps going until it does (which can include the ground). That sentiment was emphasized because so many people get hit by "stray" bullets. They don't evaporate in the air.

We had a dramatic issue with that on July 4th 2022 when a bullet from "celebratory gunfire" resulted in 2 cops being grazed by those bullets, where it was determined that the shots came from blocks away, and one bullet even ended up lodged in the hat of one cop.
