6. That's how we used our air conditioner when we lived in the Midwest.

We couldn't afford to cool all of our small home but a single small window air conditioner in the bedroom made sleeping easier -- more by lowering the humidity and moving the air than by lowering the temperature.

Before there was air conditioning there were sleeping porches.
