KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Missouri Supreme Court issued a ruling Tuesday in a closely watched legal challenge to the states congressional redistricting map that splits Kansas City into three separate districts.
The court affirmed a lower court ruling, finding the 2025 map does not violate the Missouri Constitution.
The court rejected challenges from two groups of Missouri residents who argued the map violated a section of the Missouri Constitution that requires congressional districts to be contiguous territory as compact and as nearly equal in population as may be. The consolidated cases challenged districts 4, 5 and 6, which divide the Kansas City metropolitan area.
Chief Justice Powell wrote that challengers failed to show the 2025 map clearly and undoubtedly violates the requirements of the state constitution.
